Three stops on Hanover Street for a perfect date in Boston’s North End

Boston’s North End is a classic choice for a perfect date night out in the city. As the oldest neighborhood in Boston, the North End is charmingly quaint and lined with romantic Italian restaurants and narrow cobblestone streets to explore. Hanover Street is especially bustling at night and the neighborhood comes alive with the smell of homemade Italian dishes and red wine filling the air as you walk along.  There are so many options for a great night out in this iconic Boston neighborhood. Check out our favorite spots to hit for an easy recipe to create a fun night out in the North End.

1.  Wine & Dine

There are so many amazing Italian restaurants to choose from in the North End but one of our favorites for an easy and romantic date night out is Tresca on Hanover Street.   This spot is quaint and welcoming with amazing classic Italian comfort food. There is a cozy fireplace in the dining room on the second floor. Chef Rich Ansara often comes out of the kitchen to greet guests and talk about the food. The hospitality here lends to the great dining experience.  Tresca is also home to one of the most unique dining experiences for two in the city – their Table 77.  Table 77 is an amazing table for two where in seasonal weather you can dine on a small balcony over looking bustling Hanover street below. They have a great wine list so definitely plan to enjoy a bottle of wine together here.  This is a spot to sit down, relax, and enjoy eating some fabulous food together.  The entrees are amazing but be sure not to skip straight to the main course. The appetizers are incredible as well and Anna Maria’s famous stuffed meatballs and arancini are menu highlights.

2. Coffee & Dessert

After dinner, head a few doors down to Modern Pastry for some after dinner espresso and cannolis.  We love this family owned and operated italian bakery for its classic italian desserts.  You really cannot go wrong with any of the treats you will find here.  It is cash only so be sure to plan your dessert stop here accordingly.  If feeling all filled up with good food right after dinner, this is also a great stop after an earlier comedy show on Hanover Street (see below). For an extra treat, head downstairs to Modern Underground Bar and Grill. This sub street level spot in the basement of Modern Pastry serves up pub style eats and cocktails.  The espresso martini here is one of our favorites (especially when paired with one of their favorite cannolis!
